How HDR Supports Businesses (August 2008)

August 1, 2008

Q: In addition to attracting new businesses downtown, what effort does HDR make to support existing businesses?

A: One of HDR’s top priorities is to retain and strengthen existing businesses. This is particularly important during times when the economy tightens, as seems to be the case now.

Several HDR initiatives specifically focus on promoting existing businesses, such as coop advertising in Discovery Tourism Guide and the Downtown Employee Appreciation and Holiday Coupon handouts.

Print advertising has been expanded to city bus ad space promoting downtown shopping and dining.

The popular downtown gift certificate program encourages giving the gift of downtown dollars.

The new Taste of Downtown event will promote our wonderful restaurants.

Other initiatives intended to assist downtown businesses include special events attracting people to downtown, beautification projects with the streetscape project, providing grants for signage and façade enhancements, and working with the city regarding parking policies and services.
