The historical 1850’s Pennybacker Building on East Water Street now is home to our newest downtown eatery called Pennybackers. What a treat it is to have a meal there! Tammy and Ted Brown (JMU grads) co-own this restaurant and have added another “must try” to the list of wonderful eating locations in Rocktown.
The menu offers soups, salads, sandwiches and a few appetizers and desserts. Be sure to ask for the Pennybackers secret sauce to go along with your sandwich – it’s outstanding with a blast of flavor! There is a happy hour each day from 4:00-9:00 (beer and wine) and the rooftop, a 2 level area, will hopefully be open by the end of April according to Tammy. Signature fruit drinks will be available outside also. No reservations are taken, but the inside seating capacity is 68 with another 46 spots outside.
On Friday, March 5th, 8:00pm, Mike Davis (a local entertainer) will provide 60’s, 70’s and 80’s style live music for patrons with twice monthly music to be provided in the future.
Check the website, pennybackers.com, for bookings. Tammy states that they wanted to create a happy, casual, comfortable, fun place for all to enjoy and I think their hard work has paid off! It’s just a great restaurant to visit and enjoy.
