Quick updates from downtown

  • Union Station is opening on April 30 in former Wetsel building! The restaurant has been having a series of invitation-only soft openings in preparation for the big day.
  • Shenandoah Bicycle Co. is expanding to include a smoothie bar featuring acai organic berry smoothies and various types of tea. They hope to open by May.
  • Adona Music is now selling vinyls/CDs/comics and other goodies in the back of the store on South Main Street.
  • A new full-service hair salon, Premier Design Studio has opened under the Water Street parking deck.
  • You can now get beer and wine at Earth & Tea Cafe.
  • MidTowne Market is re-opened for business! Best wishes to new owner Lauren Berry.
  • Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance’s annual fundraiser, Renaissance Night, is scheduled for May 15 at Dave’s Downtown Taverna. Strap on your platform shoes and get ready to groove with Ebony Blue featuring The Telly Tucker Trio. This year’s live and silent auctions feature some amazing items including exotic trips, gourmet dinners, vintage jewelry, and original artwork. Tickets are $75 per person.   • About 200 participants attended HDR’s first loft tour on April 12. Thanks to everyone who came out to tour ten different urban apartments downtown, from 250 Metro to City Exchange and Wolf Modern. Proceeds from the $12 admission price benefitted HDR.
  • HDR and the City of Harrisonburg received awards for volunteerism and private investment at the Virginia Main Street 25th anniversary Milestone Achievement Awards. Harrisonburg volunteers have contributed more than 55,000 hours of their time since 2004 and investors have creating the climate for more than $40 million in private investment.
  • Discover Downtown Tours is now offering one-hour walking tours on topics from Woodbine Cemetery to Hidden Harrisonburg (did you know there are underground tunnels running under Court Square?) Find a schedule and tour descriptions on HDR’s site.
