Say “Hola” to Downtown’s Newest Restaurant, Rick’s Cantina!

It’s time for another great restaurant to make its mark on downtown Harrisonburg – downtown’s first and only Tex-Mex restaurant, Rick’s Cantina! If you’re in the mood for some local and fresh burritos, tacos, chips, and maybe a tequila shot or two, Rick’s is the place to go. The best part? It’s local, in a great location, and almost everything on the menu is under $10.

Some of their unique menu items include a roasted am Fog mushroom quesadilla, chicken tortilla soup, fried plantains, and Churros y chocolate for dessert! They have a vast array of sauces, ranging from a mild Creamy Baja Cilantro-Lime to the very spicy Blackberry Habanero. They also feature a kid’s menu, which includes a cheese quesadilla, chicken taco, rice and beans, and a mini burrito. For the vegetarians out there, they have vegetarian items as well, like their wheat gluten protein sausage, made with red wine vinegar and tequila.

Rick’s isn’t just a Tex-Mex restaurant; it’s a tequila bar as well. They have a variety of tequila with shots ranging from $5 to $24, as well as tequila drinks like Rick’s House Margarita, Mexi Mojito, and Tequila Sunrise.  If tequila isn’t your drink of choice, Rick’s also features beer, wine, and sangria. For one of their first events, Día de los Muertos from October 31st to November 2nd, if you are one of the first twenty people to buy their special cocktail, you will receive a free limited edition t-shirt!

Co-owned by JMU alumni Sean Pugh, Mark Newsome, and Ann Marie Coe, opening Rick’s Cantina was their way to show their personalities through their own business venture. The three are also owners of the Joshua Wilton House, which they came upon once it was already established. Their goal for Rick’s was to open up a restaurant with Joshua Wilton House’s local fine dining approach, but show off their fun-loving demeanor through a more casual atmosphere.

All of their dishes are made in-house from local and fresh ingredients, and the spirit of Harrisonburg shines through with all of the community support they have received. They are very excited to open Rick’s Cantina in downtown and to become a part of the growing vibe of downtown Harrisonburg’s bar and restaurant scene.
