On October 4, Duo in downtown Harrisonburg kept their doors open late for a special cause. The Gamma Tau Chapter of Delta Delta Delta at James Madison University partnered with Duo to raise money for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Duo offered shoppers 10% off all items in the store and, at the end of the night, 10% of the store’s total sales for that evening went to support the hospital. During the two-hour event, over $700 worth of items were purchased and a total of $70 dollars went to St. Jude.
“We have done similar events with other sororities in the past, but this was our first event with Tri Delta,” said Duo’s Manager, Samantha Miller. “The girls were so sweet and really excited about raising money through this event.”
Since opening 14 months ago, Duo has been doing events like this one for other organizations, such as JMU sororities Sigma Kappa and Kappa Alpha Theta. Duo is interested in continuing to form and strengthen symbiotic relationships with local organizations through community outreach.
“We want the community and universities to know that we care about giving back and that it’s really important to us,” said Samantha.
Before Thanksgiving, Duo will be hosting an event in support of the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank and are looking forward to supporting many other charitable causes in the future. Contact the store for details!
