Tomorrow night, Saturday, May 11th, community members will come together to celebrate the revitalization of downtown Harrisonburg and support the work of Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance at its annual fundraising gala, Renaissance Night.
This event, held from 6:30-11:00 pm at Capital Ale House, will feature a Millennium theme, complete with a costume contest with prizes in four categories: Artistic, Glitzy, Wacky, and Most Y2K. Guests are invited to wear Millennium-era garb, business attire, or black tie ensembles. Dinner, drinks, dancing, and music with DJ Neals Barkley will provide a full evening of entertainment.
Guests will have the opportunity to bid on items from local businesses and artists, as well as a number of vacation packages. A silent auction will take place until 8:30 pm, followed by a live auction at 8:45 pm. A raffle will also be held to win one of three trips for two to Chicago, the Caribbean, or Mt. Rushmore, Grand Tetons, and Yellowstone.
Some featured items in this year’s auction include:
- Engraved sterling die-struck bracelet set with three diamonds and matching ring set with one diamond from Hugo Kohl Custom Jewelry
- Limited edition print of East Main Street by Peggy Anderson
- Spanish Paella Dinner with Taste. A Food Company
- Tandem skydive from Skydive Orange
- A week-long stay at a rustic bed & breakfast in Costa Rica
- Nationals Baseball and Sail Boating, followed by a stay at the Courtyard Marriot
- Donations for a living wall on the Elizabeth Street Parking Deck
- and more than 100 other great items and services!

The revitalization efforts of HDR have helped develop programs and projects for economic development, beautification, historic preservation, promotions, and special events. To continue funding these efforts, money raised from Renaissance Night will go to the operations of these and other programs.
