Rocktown Bites! Downtown Food Tours offer residents and visitors alike the opportunity for a behind-the-scenes experience of some of downtown Harrisonburg’s most popular and diverse eateries.

Originally created by Harrisonburg resident Kirsten Parmer, Rocktown Bites! was founded in 2012 and offered an initial season of tours last year. The Rocktown Bites! team for 2013 has expanded to welcome some new organizers and tour guides – local food enthusiasts Regina Hissong, Erin Young, and Shami Gravatt.

“Shami, Erin, and I got involved with Rocktown Bites because we think there are so many hidden culinary treasures in downtown Harrisonburg,” says Regina. “We all love the restaurants downtown and easily choose them over chain restaurants located in other places in town. Being self-proclaimed foodies, we feel that we bring enthusiasm to the adventure of trying new foods while learning tidbits of history about the town we live in and love.”

Tours will be offered throughout the summer, beginning at 2:00 p.m. every Friday and Saturday and leaving from the Hardesty-Higgins House. Each tour lasts approximately 2.5 hours and features seven unique restaurants, food shops, and local businesses in downtown Harrisonburg.

Tour attendees will have the opportunity to sample food and drinks (including craft beer and Virginia wines) while learning about the local food scene from restaurateurs and chefs.

The team at Rocktown Bites! is also pleased to offer several special themed tours this summer:

“When deciding where to relax, eat good food, and dine with friends and family, downtown Harrisonburg is a popular spot to convene,” Regina observes. “Our hope is that locals, tourists, and visitors will learn about all there is to love in Rocktown as they take several BITES on one of our food tours!”
