My name is Michael Ryan and I am the Organizational Management Intern this summer for HDR! I am a rising senior at James Madison University with a major in Geographic Science and a minor in Economics. Originally from Northern Virginia, I am excited to be able to have a positive impact on a community in which I live and to expand upon my academic interests. As a Geographic Science student, community sustainability is one aspect of my studies, and I love the walkability and reuse of classic buildings that I see in downtown Harrisonburg.
I see tremendous possibilities for downtown Harrisonburg to continue to become a popular destination for residents and visitors to the Valley. One of my favorite aspects of downtown is the conglomeration of so many shops, bars, and restaurants so close to a bevy of outdoor recreational activities.
This summer, I will be working on several different projects. I enjoy doing graphic design work and will be helping out with that as much as I can. Also, I will be updating our business survey in order to provide useful information on downtown businesses that can be used as a valuable resource.
With this being my first summer in the ‘burg, I can’t wait for both Taste of Downtown and Valley Fourth. Downtown wouldn’t be as strong without the residents and friends of Harrisonburg, and I hope to see you downtown this summer!
