Taste of Downtown returns August 12-18, 2013 with the largest number of participating locations yet. From Monday lunch through Sunday brunch, downtown restaurants and eateries will offer special menu items in five categories. Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance and the Downtown Dining Alliance present this biannual restaurant week for the community to highlight local restaurants each March and August.
Each day of this week-long culinary celebration features breakfast, lunch, dinner, and treat specials from 25 locally-owned downtown restaurants, with three locations offering weekend brunch. Specials range from discounted menu favorites to items or combos exclusive to Taste of Downtown. With each event, Taste of Downtown gains more support from the community and highlights long-standing restaurants and new eateries in downtown Harrisonburg.
Four popular downtown favorites are now a part of Taste of Downtown! The newly-expanded and soon-to-reopen CubanBurger will join the lunch category. The Harrisonburg Farmers Market, Strite’s Donuts, and Three Brothers Brewing will all be offering specials as part of the “Sweets, Treats, and Other Eats” category. Strite’s Donuts will also be a part of the breakfast category, along with the Artful Dodger, offering tasty breakfast items and combos throughout the day and evening.
Another new addition to the event will be the “Around the World in Rocktown” walking and tasting tour presented by Rocktown Bites! Downtown Food Tours. This special edition tour will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, August 15, Friday, August 16, and Saturday, August 17. Highlighting the diversity of Harrisonburg’s culinary scene, “Around the World in Rocktown” will provide attendees with a generous sampling of local flavors, ethnic specialties, and a behind-the-scenes look at some of downtown Harrisonburg’s chefs and professional kitchens. Tickets for the tour are $35.00 per person and available for purchase at www.rocktownbites.com.
“We’re fortunate to have such a diverse community and I think one of the places this is most evident is in our food scene,” says Nicole Martorana, Promotions Manager for Harrisonburg Downtown Renaissance. “Our restaurants offer a wide variety of ethnic cuisines and highlight the abundance of fresh, local meats and produce that come from being located in such a rich agricultural region. Taste of Downtown provides an opportunity to explore these flavors while supporting local businesses.”
