Supporters of all ages in the downtown Harrisonburg community gathered yesterday evening, Wednesday, July 31, at the City Council Chambers to participate in two Plan Our Park charrette meetings. (For those unfamiliar with the term, a ‘charrette’ is a project-planning group activity.) After a brief introduction to the Plan Our Park project from Eddie Bumbaugh and Matt Robertson, head architect Ken Smith of Ken Smith Landscape Architecture showed photos of various public parks around the world in order to help get meeting-goers’ creative juices flowing.

Ken Smith responds to a question about the potential park area at the earlier session.

Then it was time for the charrettes! Meeting attendees gathered at conference tables to discuss ideas, questions, and concerns about a potential park in downtown Harrisonburg.

A follow-up Plan Our Park Presentation will be held this Saturday, August 3 at 9:30 am in the City Council Chambers building at 409 South Main Street. This meeting will present initial findings and inform the public of the next steps in the park process. The Plan Our Park Committee and Workshop Design Team extend a special invitation to city officials, downtown business and property owners, and the general public to attend. If you’d still like to provide input, please post your ideas on the Plan Our Park facebook page.
